Alumni

“If I have kids, I will send them to Waldorf school. I think Waldorf prepares a kid to become a whole person who can function in the world – they will work hard and try to figure it out. Waldorf kids don’t tend to give up.”
— Rachael Arand, WIWS 8th Grade Grad '11
“Waldorf education is an apprenticeship in human wholeness, and it shows in the uncommon poise, independence, energy, and creativity of Waldorf graduates.”

Alumni Engagement

Whidbey Island Waldorf Schools has been graduating students for nearly 30 years! We are grateful for every student and family that has passed through our classrooms and hallways for as little as 1 year or for as long as nursery through 8th grade! We invite our alumni students and their parents to stay connected in numerous ways.

Please make sure we have your current email and mailing address to stay informed about opportunities to engage in and support WIWS, such as the following:

Festivals

  • Festival of Courage is always the last Friday in September. Come and see other alumni students and parents while having a picnic on the hillside. Enjoy the Grades pageant, and the re-imagining of the classic Michaelmas play through a Pacific Northwest Indigenous story. Sample the many varieties of apple crisp served in Huckleberry Hall. Sing around the bonfire. You are always welcome!

  • May Faire/Festival of Flowers is always the last Saturday in April or the first Saturday in May. Connect with other alumni students and parents while watching the Maypole dances. Taste the sweet sour minty delight of a lemon peppermint treat. Participate in or observe the crafts or games. Bring your children if you have them!

Other Events and News

  • Parties, auctions, and other special events differ from year to year. Consider yourself invited!

  • Every year we publish an Annual Report highlighting our accomplishments from the year before. It’s a great way to stay abreast of your beloved Waldorf school’s growth and development.

  • We sometimes have exciting special news to share, such as a major donation received or a unique accomplishment of a student or class.

Annual Giving Campaign

WIWS relies on Annual Giving donations to meet its basic operating expenses while providing tuition assistance and making Waldorf education affordable to families. We greatly appreciate your ongoing support and would like to make sure you have the opportunity to contribute to the Alumni Matching Campaign each year.

Volunteering

WIWS also relies on volunteerism! Would you like to help with handwork, contribute to building a sandbox, check books back in to our library, serve on the Board or a school committee, or do any of a variety of tasks or services to support the school? We will welcome you with open arms!

Every year we host a Grades Curriculum Tour and Alumni Panel. We would love to welcome you to join our Alumni Panel!
