Interim Administrator

Starting July 2024

Summary

Whidbey Island Waldorf School is seeking an Interim Administrator for 2024-2025. As the school’s 40th year approaches, enrollment grows beyond previous levels, and our current Administrator retires, we are taking a good look at our current governance structure, position descriptions and agreements. An Organizational Review Task Force has begun this work to review and assess what exists in order to ensure that the school position descriptions, organizational structure and other shared agreements reflect the school’s current needs.

An ideal candidate will enjoy helping the school find its right-sized form with a listening heart and an open mind to be sensitive to what’s unfolding as next steps in the school’s growth and evolution. As a collaborative leader, you will work closely with a solid, established Administrative Team, inspiring pedagogical leadership, and a strong, supportive Board as well as a dynamic, experienced faculty. The 2024-2025 school year will include a search for a permanent Administrator or Head of School. Interim Administrator candidates interested in the permanent position will be considered if they decide to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional leadership, direction and vision for the whole school

  • Ensure continuity, integrity and compliance in its operations, policies and practices

  • Collaborate with and support the staff members who handle the operations, business, facilities and grounds maintenance, enrollment, outreach, and resource development aspects of the school

  • Collaborate with and support the Board of Trustees, faculty, committees and task forces

  • Oversee the school’s long-range planning and organizational and community development, including any capital campaigns

  • Support the school’s Organizational Review process and contribute to the school’s healthy transition

Qualifications

  • A strong understanding of Waldorf education and collaborative governance

  • Ability to see and respond from a holistic, long-term perspective

  • Works collaboratively, as a team player and a team builder

  • Communicates effectively, tactfully and courteously both orally and in writing

  • Understands principles of effective public relations and values interrelationships with community groups, private and public agencies, parents, and the general public

  • Experience with nonprofit and/or school management and strategic planning, including finance, budgeting, and human resources

  • Experience with successful grant writing, fundraising and friend-raising

  • Earned a Bachelor’s degree or above.

Employment Details:

  • Full-time, salaried from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025

  • Salary range: $55,000-$70,000

  • Benefits: Health insurance, tuition remission and professional development funds

  • Hired by the Board of Trustees and reports to that body.

Grade 1 Teacher for 2024-2025


Whidbey Island Waldorf School is seeking a full-time class teacher to join our school, starting with Grade 1. The ideal candidate will be a fully-trained Waldorf teacher with teaching experience. We seek a confident, warm, community-minded individual with a deep appreciation for the Waldorf approach to education and its anthroposophical foundations. A willingness to engage deeply in rethinking the Waldorf curriculum with an eye to diversity, equity and inclusion is also desired. Three mixed-age kindergarten classes are contributing to the enrollment, leading to a grade 1 class of 17 children (+ or -).

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Strong knowledge of Waldorf school philosophy, including educational principles and methods.

  • Waldorf teaching experience.

  • Able to independently teach and effectively manage a group of students.

  • Able to respectfully, clearly and warmly communicate with class parents and to work collaboratively with the parents on behalf of the students.

  • Confident, warm, community-minded, self-aware, conscientious.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with fellow teachers and administrators.

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Waldorf teacher education certification or commitment to such certification

Seeking substitute teachers, EC and grades!

WIWS is seeking substitute teachers for grades 1-8, toddler, preschool and kindergarten classes. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching the relevant age group as well as knowledge of and interest in learning more about Waldorf education.
We seek confident, responsible and reliable individuals who are able to work independently and collaboratively, provide firm discipline with a warm and caring attitude toward students, and follow through with communications and paperwork.

Pay for Substitute Teaching:
EC/Grades Lead Teacher - $30/hour
Assistant Teacher - $22/hour
EC PM Lead Teachers - $25/hour
